The youngest age group racing at Marlow Regatta are the J14s and they race in the J14 Octuple Sculls, 8 scullers and a cox. Sculling is a great way for the young athletes to learn to row before they transition to sweep oar rowing as J15s.
The J14 8x+ category is an open event, so not exclusively for boys. In fact all the Marlow Regatta events are open events, as defined by British Rowing, and we do occasionally have ladies or mixed crews entering. In 2025 we were joined at Dorney Lake by 2 ladies eights and a mixed J14 8x+ from Henley RC.
Previously we have also had the GB team women’s quadruple scull crew, who went on to win Olympic silver medals, racing the men and the mixed services crews who raced at HRR for the Queen’s diamond jubilee.
So don’t be surprised if you do see ladies in crews at the 2026 regatta.
